Psalm 23 For Me

Psalm 23, one of the most beloved and profound chapters in the Bible, has a depth of meaning that is sometimes lost in familiarity. Have you ever really personalized Psalm 23 and made it your very own? Once I started reading this intense chapter in this manner, it became much more real to me. I could finally accept that it wasn’t just a generalization, but it was written for each of us to apply to our lives. It is easy to place Scripture in the past, find pleasure in reading it, but not making it applicable to us personally. Try reading with emphasis on the bold personal pronouns and see if you can feel a difference!

1 The LORD is MY shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh ME to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth ME beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth MY soul: he leadeth ME in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with ME; thy rod and thy staff they comfort ME.

5 Thou preparest a table before ME in the presence of MINE enemies: thou anointest MY head with oil; MY cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow ME all the days of MY life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

You may have this chapter in your memory, and perhaps it has become too familiar causing it to have lost some impact. Why not try personalizing this chapter and see if your conception of its meaning changes and becomes your very own? It challenges us to commune with God up close and personal.

The Lord is MY shepherd!
